By the late 1970s, it had transformed from a grand theatre to a vaudeville house, and finally a movie theatre. ![]() It is owned and operated by the Lexington Center Corporation. An American architect Oscar Cobb designed the opera house. The theater opened to the public on July 19th, 1887, with a seating capacity of approximately 1,000. ![]() The Lexington Opera House is an art performing venue located at 401 West Short Street in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
